CHELSEA TUROWSKY

Chelsea Turowsky (New York, 1989) is an American artist working across food and text.

Turowsky’s practice treats memory as map, with inheritance, collective history, and cultural evidence as compass. A type of translator, they compare the plate to the page, approaching each menu as an extension of their written poetry. Flavor becomes language.

Based in Berlin, Turowsky has worked professionally as a chef and gastronomic consultant since 2015. Their culinary work exists primarily within fashion, fragrance, art, and design, crafting dining experiences for brands and institutions interested in translating ethos, aesthetics and discourse into multisensory form. Through residencies across restaurants, geographies, and unconventional spaces, Turowsky focuses on Omakase-style dining both within and beyond the traditional restaurant context.

Over the last decade, Turowsky has developed an ongoing relationship to the menu as an artistic medium, often incorporating poetry directly into its structure while investigating the symbolism of ingredients as they relate to trauma, cognition, and healing. For Turowsky, food functions as both material and methodology, with the choreography of gathering and event-making forming an extension of the practice itself.
